Strickland’s Job Rating Sinks

“Turn Around Ohio” must mean turning voters away from approving of Ted Strickland.

Strickland Job Rating Drops; Voters Concerned About ODE Restructuring, Bond Issue, Keno Plan

Governor Ted Strickland’s job approval rating has fallen five points since last November, and voters expressed concerns about three of the governor’s most recent major policy proposals, according to the results of a poll released Tuesday morning.

Fifty-six percent of respondents to a Quinnipiac University poll said they approve of the governor’s work, while 19% said they disapprove. In November, 61% said they supported Mr. Strickland’s job performance, and 15% disapproved.

The survey showed that voters overwhelmingly disapprove of the governor’s proposal to largely take control of the Ohio Department of Education. The survey showed that 70% of respondents prefer to have the State Board of Education with control, compared to 17% who said the governor should have the authority to appoint a state education director.

Separately, the survey found that 44% of respondents felt the governor’s proposal to issue $1.7 billion in bonds for economic development purposes is a bad idea, compared to 40% who said it was a good idea.

Additionally, 49% said they oppose Mr. Strickland’s plan – adopted by the Lottery Commission last week – to add keno machines in bars and other locations. Forty-four percent said they support the plan.

I wish that the first question they asked was, “Who is the governor of Ohio?” Then only ask the rest of the questions to the 40% who actually know. I’ll bet the numbers would look alot different.
