Straight Talk Express Runs Over Conservative Bill Cunningham

Sen. John McCain quickly denounced comments Cincinnati radio host Bill Cunningham made about Sen. Barack Obama, during McCain’s local appearance Tuesday.
Cunningham, who hosts a conservative talk show on WLW-AM, made opening remarks prior to McCain’s speech at Memorial Hall in Over-the-Rhine. According to numerous media reports, Cunningham pointedly referred to the Democratic candidate by his full name, Barack Hussein Obama, called him a “hack” and suggested he received “sweetheart deals” as a Chicago politician.
McCain, immediately after his speech, told reporters he didn’t know about the remarks beforehand, but he repudiated them, according to a National Public Radio report.
So to review, Cunningham mentioned B. Hussein’s middle name while making brief reference to Hussein being part of the Chicago political machine. For Cunningham, this sort of rhetoric is tame. And what John SIDNEY McCain is apologizing for will soon become the central theme of his campaign. I really can’t stand this elderly, progressive hawk.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Kevin O’Brien in his column today is joining other GOP party hacks in urging conservatives to forget their differences with John McCain and stand together to show party unity (something which has never been asked of John McCain… Especially as his American Conservative Union rating sunk to near-Lincoln Chafee levels after the 2000 election.). Kevin deserves respect for being the only right-leaning guy in a newsroom full of dedicated Obama-lefties, but that doesn’t make him any less wrong. Instead of having a president who can bring both parties together to increase the size of government, I’d rather have a liberal in office who would force Republicans in Congress to act like Republicans again and use every possible tactic to stop every big government proposal. Therefore, conservatives should focus on increasing the number of conservatives in Congress. I’m sure McCain will do just fine with appealing to his base of Democrats, enlightened “moderates”, and illegal aliens.

Do you really think throwing the name “Hussein” around will bring down Obama? Look at Hillary’s picture scandal. McCain needs to distance himself from this type of thing - it doesn’t work.
But Eric- He didn’t emphasize the middle name. he simply said his full name… just like people use President Bush’s middle name. It was foolish, and I don’t think McCain could have found a faster way to annoy the southern Ohio party base.
i agree with matt. no apology to liberals for calling them what they are.
the biggest issue in this race is the situation in iraq and mccain is by far the best candidate on that issue. kill as many of those bastards as possible and stay as long as it takes to condition the minds of others to kill the rest of em after we leave. you play nice with em and withdraw and we’ll invite more attacks. it’s common sense. you go with clinton or obama, we’ll not be on the ground there in any significant way and we’ll be back to sending tomahawk missles to blow up aspirin factories. employing a “cute” political strategy of sacrificing mccain in order to “teach em a lesson” is a recipe for disaster that will cost innocent american lives in the end.
