A New Hillary Lie… And This One Involves an Ohio Hospital
Published April 6th, 2008 @ 9:01 am. Tags: clinton, healthcare, lieFrom the liberal New York Times:
Over the last five weeks, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York has featured in her campaign stump speeches the story of a health care horror: an uninsured pregnant woman who lost her baby and died herself after being denied care by an Ohio hospital because she could not come up with a $100 fee.
The woman, Trina Bachtel, did die last August, two weeks after her baby boy was stillborn at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, Ohio. But hospital administrators said Friday that Ms. Bachtel was under the care of an obstetrics practice affiliated with the hospital, that she was never refused treatment and that she was, in fact, insured.
“We implore the Clinton campaign to immediately desist from repeating this story,” said Rick Castrop, chief executive officer of the O’Bleness Health System.
Linda M. Weiss, a spokeswoman for the not-for-profit hospital, said the Clinton campaign had never contacted the hospital to check the accuracy of the story, which Mrs. Clinton had first heard from a Meigs County, Ohio, sheriff’s deputy in late February.
Later in the article, the Hillary campaign adds to the pile of lies when they claim they couldn’t fully vet this story. This hospital, faced with five weeks of insults from a Democrat presidential nominee, would have certainly explained themselves.
It is also important to note that no one can be turned away for medical care in Ohio. And even though I’m not a fan of Romney/Blackwell/Hillary-style health care mandates, the argument in favor of those mandates is that those who can not afford insurance and can’t pay for healthcare out-of-pocket force hospitals to raise prices and insurance companies to raise premiums. Therefore, healthcare for indigents is already paid for.
But why is health care industry treated this way? For example, many people need to have a working car to get to work and provide for their families, so why aren’t auto mechanics forced to provide car insurance regardless of the driver’s ability to pay? Or maybe people will make a better impression during a job interview if they had a fitted suit instead of a cheap suit, so shouldn’t every male, regardless of income, be provided atleast one quality suit? The foolish notion that we have a “right to healthcare” is really the “right force others to pay for your healthcare.” Healthcare, just like car mufflers and nice suits, doesn’t grow on trees.
No one was turned away from Ohio hospitals. It is unfortunate that Trina died, and it is another shame that Hillary, a pathological liar, would use a false story about the death of an Ohio woman to pander to morons:
