State Rep. Matt Barrett is a Pervert- Also, Chris Redfern & Buckeye State Blog Owes Kevin DeWine an Apology

State Rep. Matt Barrett resigned in disgrace Thursday at the request of the Ohio House of Representatives minority leader and could face criminal charges related to an incident last year in which he accidentally projected the image of a topless woman during a civics lecture to a high school class.
“It became clear that Rep. Barrett had not been forthright with me and his colleagues,” state Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-Columbus, said in a news release Thursday, a day after she asked Barrett to resign.
Shortly after the October incident, Beatty downplayed it, saying one of Barrett’s four children, a teenage son, was responsible for the image on his father’s computer.
But Beatty’s release Thursday said Barrett has now admitted to Beatty that he lied, but the release did not elaborate.
Beatty was traveling Thursday and unavailable for comment.
State Rep. Chris Redfern, D-Catawba Island, who also serves as head of the state Democratic Party, wouldn’t say what Barrett lied about, but he said the responsibility lies with Barrett, not other Democrats.
“It’s not a Democratic scandal. It’s a Matt Barrett scandal,” Redfern said. “He lied to a lot of people.”
Don’t you just love it that this supposedly isn’t a Democrat scandal, and that the liberal MSM can’t remember Marc Dann’s party affiliation… But Tom Noe, Mark Foley, and Larry “wide stance” Craig were all labeled as Republican scandals? Redfern is able to get away with this crap because he understands that the MSM is a wholly owned subsidiary of the DNC.
The worst part of this story is how Barrett was so quick to throw his innocent son under the bus. What an awful father that pervert is!
This is a Republican-leaning district, and Matt’s predecessor was Republican Kathleen Walcher. This will be a costly problem for the Ohio House Democrat’s campaign committee.
And does anyone remember this post from Buckeye State Blog from October 2007?:
My interest was piqued when I saw a story at RAB claiming that ODP’s post with Chairman Redfern’s statement blasting GOP Deputy Chair Kevin DeWine’s sad attempt to use a 13 year old to the GOP’s advantage was gone. So, I poked around a little and came up with the following rumor. I didn’t run with it until I thought it was credible, so I do feel pretty confident posting it here.
Apparently private assurances have been passed from the Republican leadership in the Ohio House to the Democrats that this incident is off the table electorally in 2008. It is a private family affair that unfortunately was broadcast across the state. The House Republicans get it. Neither side of the aisle wants their kids to be dragged into the middle of a political mess. Too many good people already bypass public service due to the nasty state of politics. If suddenly everyone’s kids are fair game, then no one with a family will want to run for office. Rep. Dolan, or whoever exactly initiated the Republican pledge, deserves a pat on the back for acting with a lot of class. I hope our leadership would extend the Republicans the same courtesy if the situation ever arose.
So now we roll around the Kevin DeWine. The Deputy Chairman of the Ohio GOP shot his mouth off pretty badly last week when he all but said that attacking a 13 year old was going to be page one of the Republican play book in 2008. This deal seems to signal that Kev really overstepped his bounds. Approaching the 2008 cycle, it also demonstrates that when Kevin DeWine opens his mouth, he isn’t speaking for the entire Republican Party. He can’t even speak for his colleagues in the Ohio House, and from what I gathered he was left out of the decision making regarding these assurances. That is a pretty damaging revelation for the man who aspires to be chairman in two years.
DeWine may have the do-anything-to-win faction of the GOP behind him, but it is nice to know that there are still some reasonable people who understand that standards of decency (i.e. not attacking minor children) should and do exist.
The Ohio Democrat Chairman Redfern and lib bloggers accused Ohio GOP Deputy Chairman Kevin DeWine attacking a 13 year old boy when this story first came out. That was an outrageous and false claim. And if those slimly liberals had any decency, they would apologize to Kevin.
Jokes:
1) So what have we learned from all this? As a good friend told me, State Reps now know to carefully label their their flash drives as “work” or “pictures of naked women from the district.”
2) And since Governor Strickland wants sex education to include much more than abstinence, maybe this was Barrett’s way of getting sex ed. students excited about their homework?
3) Barrett brings new meaning to the term “FLASH drive.”
