A Slow Impeachment is Exactly What the Dems Want
Published May 12th, 2008 @ 9:47 am. Tags: marc dannBecause Dann hasn’t quit, and may not for a long time, Strickland strategy No. 2 - legislative removal via impeachment - is in play. Trouble is, even assuming General Assembly Republicans are ready to accept Strickland’s engraved invitation, impeachment is the slowest way possible to unseat Dann. Then again, maybe that’s the idea, because there’s an arguably easier and certainly fairer way to remove Dann (more on that below). But for some reason, Strickland’s huddle won’t call that play.
So Strickland’s demand for Dann’s impeachment raises questions about whether Democrats really want Dann out of office now, or would be glad to have him on the job through Sept. 24. If his job opens up before then, Republicans get to try to elect a new attorney general in November, instead of waiting until November 2010. If Dann leaves after Sept. 24, Strickland can appoint a new AG, who would have two years of incumbency before the 2010 election. Democrats and Republicans alike know that when it comes to ladling out gravy in Ohio, the attorney general’s office is second only to the governor’s.
The Ohio Republican Party, Jon Husted and others have been slow to get infront of Marc Dann’s scandals. They allowed the Democrats not only to beat them to the punch, but by delaying attacks and talk of impeachment, they even gave Redfern and Strickland an out to back off of their initially harsh criticism of Dann’s sexual escapades and his incompetent leadership.
Now the Democrats want to push off Dann’s removal past the date which would require an election in November. And with Speaker Jon Husted and other legislators supporting an investigation by the Ohio Inspector General, which will take months, it looks like the Democrats will get their wish of avoiding an election in November for the AG’s office.

Not sure why you label Tom Suddes. I always find his commentary to be fair and thoughtful.
Did Don Juan Gutierrez give Tom Suddes a sex toy as well?
I’m not sure that the Democrats want a slow impeachment. They just filed articles of impeachment against Dann in the Ohio House.
The reason that the Dems might not want a slow impeachment is because the Dann scandal might be a drag on the Democratic Presidential ticket here in Ohio. And like in previous years, Ohio will be a key state in the Presidential election.
