And right now, Ohio’s acting Attorney General is Tom Noe’s former lobbyist, Tom Winters.
Ironic!
SOUNDS LIKE A GREEK TRAGEDY!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALL RIGHT, WHO IS THE BEST REPUBLICAN TO GO IN THERE AND CLEAN SOME SERIOUS DIRT AND TAINT THAT HAS BEEN LEFT ON THIS OFFICE?
1. BETTY MONTGOMERY
2. ROB PORTMAN
3.MIKE DEWIBE
4. TIM GRENDELL
5. RON O’BRIEN
Steve Buehrer
1. Montgomery already said she is not going to run. Check out: http://blog.dispatch.com/dailybriefing/2008/05/dann_may_be_quitting_at_445.shtml
2. Portman wants McCain’s VP nomination. He is worried about bigger things.
3. DeWine would get crushed by Cordray. We might as well save the money and not run anyone if we nominate him.
4. Grendell would get crushed by Cordray. We might as well save the money and not run anyone if we nominate him.
5. O’Brien will not run because he cannot run safe this year, he is up for re-election. He would also have a VERY tough race against Cordray, who has nearly a million in the bank right now and could raise 2 million in a month easily from the outside counsel and the banks.
We basically cannot take the office back unless they do not nominate Cordray. If they nominate someone else that will change things.
JOE DETERS IS PROBABLY WEAK AS WELL
WHAT ABOUT THE HONORABLE BILL BATCHELDER FOR AG?
Deters would be DOA due to the skeletons and unanswered questions from his time as state Treasurer.
Batchelder would be a great AG, but I don’t think he is interested.
I like Batch for AG!
I am a lifelong R and have only voted D once in over two decades (for a DR judge), but the reality is Ohio would be well served with Cordray in the AG’s office. He would only be the brightest and most qualified person ever to hold the position — R or D. Setting aside partisan politics, the State of Ohio would be fortunate to have someone like him willing to walk away from literally millions of dollars in the private sector to serve the public as AG.
It really boils down to just a small handful of people. I agree with most of the reasons stated above regarding Betty, DeWine, Deters and Grendell. Portman would be terrific, but he wont do it because VP is the goal and McCain will not announce anytime soon. Portman will hold out until August to see if McCain picks him and the ORP will have to annoint a candidate sooner than that.
That leaves O’Brien as the most logical choice. He has $250,000 in the bank right now (but can only transfer $200,000 due to Ohio restrictions). His name ID is better than Cordray. The key is that he is a no nonsense County Prosecutor with years of experience. Recall, Gov. Ted said today that he is looking for someone with maturity, ethics and experience running a staff and managing a staff. Thansk Governor…. that person is Ron O’Brien. Ron is pro family, pro life and has thrown away the bad guys and kept the community safe his entire career.
If Betty would not have gotten back into the AG race in 2006, O’Brien would have stayed in (beat Grendell) and smoked Dann in the general election as Ron had no connection to Noe. As a matter of fact, Ron O’Brien PROSECUTED BOB TAFT!! Enough said!
The key with Ron is whether or not the ORP would make a commitment to him (grassroots and financially). If they are willing to throw their total support behind him, I bet he will do it, He has over 30 years in PERS. He is not worried about finding work.
Yost sounds very appealing as well, BUT… he has NO MONEY, and NO NAME ID. He is a little “green”…. Cordray would easily smoke him one on one. With a little more seasoning, Yost will be a great candidate in the future, just not now. Here is the ONE KILLER THING about Yost though,,,, and you heard it hear first…. word on the street is that MARK WEAVER IS NOW CONSULTING FOR HIM> Mark learned today that Betty aint intetrested so he quickly jumped ship to Yost. Dave, if you are reading this post…. run away as fast as you can!
While I agree with your points on O’Brien, I really don’t think we’ll see him run. This year will likely be a very Democratic year, with tons of people voting a straight D ticket just because they are new voters drawn in by Obama. O’Brien would be knocked out of his current office and would have no other office to leverage any future political runs from. Why risk it all when he can run safe in 2010, if necessary?
Who knows, I could be totally wrong, but it would be an incredible political gamble and most of these guys are risk averse by nature.
Of course, if the Democrats nominate someone other than Cordray, the entire equation changes and you may well see O’Brien and a whole mess of others take a stab at it.
Hey Marc Dann,
I wonder if you think that *ussy was worth losing your office and the public trust (not to mention your political career)
Good job Jessica, your ambition, ladder climbing, and lust took down the Attorney General of Ohio!!!!!! You should be a Republican double agent. Maybe Standford could use you to skewer and fry more democrats! (if you don’t sleep with him)
Good job Matt! Keep them accountable!
ALL OF THEM!
