I Miss You, Dan Williamson!

Read this article from The Dispatch, which shows the serious fiscal problems Columbus’ government, under Democrat leadership, is facing. Look at who the spokesman for Mayor Coleman is:

A stagnant economy and rising costs have put Columbus in a $75 million hole that has officials considering charging for trash pickup in 2009.[...]

Coleman, who opposed a trash fee in his 1999 first-term campaign, has continued speaking against the idea into this year. He said after winning his third term last fall, though, that “we have to look at everything” to stabilize city finances for the long term.

Council members also have softened on the idea of raising taxes or imposing new fees. Dorrian said in 2006 that the city should put a tax increase before voters, but the idea was dismissed by incumbent Democrats when it was raised by a GOP challenger last fall.

Council President Michael C. Mentel has said since then that an income-tax referendum should be considered. Councilwoman Maryellen O’Shaughnessy said in March that a garbage-pickup fee should be considered as a way to expand recycling.

An economic-advisory panel appointed by Coleman in February is looking at all options, spokesman Dan Williamson said yesterday. Its recommendations are due in early 2009.

“I hesitate to say what is and isn’t on the table,” Williamson said.

Dan Williamson used to be the best political reporter in the state, writing snappy and insightful columns for The Other Paper. His replacement at the publication appears to be a far-left idiot (Erik Johns) and now Williamson has been reduced to being a spokesman for Columbus’ womanizing, corrupt mayor.

A week without reading a Williamson column is like a week without sunshine. I understand that the benefits of working for government are far better than what The Other Paper could offer, but I hope Dan returns to journalism someday…. Maybe he can take over for Joe Hallett once he passes away?

I miss you, Dan!

You’re right…Dan Williamson was an excellent reporter for The Other Paper. He wasn’t always nice, but he was always fair. It’s incredible that he would go to work for Coleman. With tax raises on the way, is it too much to hope that this will be Coleman’s last term?

I agree. I heart Dan Williamson. I just learned that Dan has left The Other Paper and I am deeply saddened by this news. I’d noticed his columns were missing, but I thought he was on vacation or something. It wasn’t until this week’s paper included a quote from Dan Williamson as spokesman for the mayor that I figured it out.

    This is very sad.

When you said, “A week without reading a Williamson column is like a week without sunshine,” you couldn’t have been more correct.

    What will we do now?

I liked his work too. But Matt, are you trying to tell us something. Just kidding. Dan’s a good dude. I still can’t believe he took a job with Frankie’s bunch.
