Some friends of mine from THE Ohio State University, one current student and a couple recent graduates, have started a new blog to follow the important race to replace Rep. Deborah Pryce in the 15th District between Senator Steve Stivers and far-left loon Mary Jo Kilroy.

The Ohio-focused blogosphere has a severe lack of conservative voices, so I’m glad to see a new blog like this start up! And since this will be one of the most important (and expensive?) congressional races in the country, they certainly won’t be lacking for material.

Check it out at Ohio15th.com.

Too bad Stivers isn’t a conservative. He’s pro-abortion and against school choice. He’s good on economic issues and tort reform, but not so good on many other issues.

  2. 2 R.Lee Ermey

So, does that mean you are going to support the socialist Mary Jo Kilroy who is bad on economic, business and pretty much every issue? I cannot imagine someone who epitomizes the crazy-left more than Kilroy. I have to imagine you have far more issues with her than with Stivers.

I’m not going to support either one of them. I’m done choosing the lesser of two evils. My vote will go to Don Eckhart, the conservative in the race.

C’mon, there’s no way that anyone believes that “Anonymous” is not Don Eckhart himself. As a conservative in the 15th district, I may not agree 100% of the time with Stivers (as is the case with any candidate in any race), but it is far better than the alternative.

Don Eckhart, last I checked, is not “the” conservative in the race, he is an independent candidate. And, simply put, if someone considers themselves to be a conservative that wants to retain the 15th district, the only vote they can cast is for Stivers.

A vote for Eckhart is nothing more than a vote for Mary Jo Kilroy, and it would be a shame if someone as awful as her were to sneak away with the race because some radical independent is out there stealing some “r” votes.

I am not Don Eckhart. I am a principled conservative Republican. I believe in smaller government, lower taxes, I am for school choice, I am pro-life and for protecting marriage. I am not for one of these issues any more than another. I am for all of these issues, because I am a conservative. I am not going to vote for someone who opposes my views just because they have an R after their name. I am tired of voting for RINOs. In my honest opinion a vote for Stivers is no different than a vote for Kilroy.

I believe the reason we Republicans are in this mess is because we forgot who we are and what we’re all about. We allowed guys like Steve Stivers to represent our Party and we lost our way. I care enough about this Party to let it lose once in a while. I think it’s funny how someone who is pro-life is told to hold our nose and vote for someone, but what if someone was for higher taxes and the pro-life community told the moderates to hold their nose for the good of the Party.

It’s time for the people to demand their Party back. I will hold accountable Republicans who are weak on social issues, just as I will hold accountable Republicans who are weak on fiscal issues.

Anon: my apologies, you must be one of Don’s relatives (c’mon, all in good fun)…Oh well, call me a “RINO” if you must, but at least I can see the forest for the trees.

Have a good weekend everyone. Anonymous, I’ll see you at the next Nader rally!

Here’s a National blog for Liberty Lovers and Fiscal Conservatives:

Matt– are you saying people who like Ron Paul are not permitted to enter their comments on your blog?

You voted for Paul- what has changed?

  9. 9 admin

No, there is a difference between commenting and just linking to your blog to promote it.

I voted for Paul because the race was already decided and I like a lot of the points John Derbyshire has made for his support of Paul. But he has a creepy internet cultish following that I will have no part of, thanks.

Interesting but don’t you also have any internet following? What is so creepy about it..?

I have in the past recommended folks visit your site and also suggested they link to you.. What a shame to name call and call my ideas spam and delete them..

Course– it is your blog– if those are the rules you play by- I won’t visit.. Everyone likes hospitality.. Even conservatives with computers-

I hope you’ll consider being more welcoming to Republicans like me.

I don’t know… it’s just something about the mixture of Birchers, 9/11 truthers, Alex Jones types, militia types, kooky tax evaders, and dopers put a group of otherwise sane libertarians just bothers me.

But don’t make this about me discriminating against Republicans, because I’m not. I’m simply deleting spam, where you simply left a comment to promote your blog. There are plenty more polite ways to promote your blog.

And I have an internet following? Gosh I hope not.

    Matt–

You better quit using the internet as a forum if you don’t want an internet following.. (:

I would assume you like anyone with ideas wants to share them - promote them- the internet just happens to be a little more advanced than the phone.. it’s really not cultish or kookish.

By the way– Ron Paul did gather a big mix of people - however- many, many of us are pretty mainstream looking and acting people..I for one am a pretty straightlaced Republican though I’m pretty fiscally conservative. It is true that we welcomed “all types”– and it was great to work toward a limited gov- free society that benefited- even folks who don’t look or think just like me (though we all wanted one another to be free)

One of your buddies visited the Ron Paul group in Columbus; his wife said it was the most exciting political event she had been to. I hope you meet some of us face to face.. I think it may be a good thing-

  13. 13 Hmmm.

Don Eckhart will help elect Mary Jo Kilroy. That makes him part of the problem. The people who vote for him are being principled to the point of stupidity.

Don Eckhart, if he was serious about being a candidate, would have run in the Republican primary and beat Stivers. I am quite conservative, but that doesn’t mean that I will support any gadfly who just throws his name on the ballot.

I’ve talked extensively to Steve about his positions… Sadly, he is not a movement conservative. But he is a patriot, has a 100% pro-life voting record, and supports gun rights…. Which is a major improvement from Deb Pryce.

Politics is the art of the possible. And conservatives support gradual improvement over time. I can totally see why conservatives don’t get fired up about Steve while he continues to position himself as a moderate…. But there is no justification for helping Mary Jo instead.

PS… I just looked at the IP addresses for the Eckhart supporters. I don’t think they are Eckhart… But I do believe they could be from Democrats and Kilroy supporters. Ignore them.
