Over the past two days, it appears that I have falsely accused Jennifer Urban, an Assistant Ohio Attorney General, of faking a burglary to steal her Blackberry. (see here and here). Even though the story of her Blackberry being stolen hours after computers were confiscated by the Attorney General’s office, her Blackberry has since resurfaced. And I don’t blame Channel 10 Columbus, but I was simply following the logical conclusions of their reporting in making my accusations.

In the Cleveland Free Times, Jennifer was recently quoted as crediting my work on Right Angle Blog as being the first publication to expose AG Marc Dann’s affair with his scheduler. Read that here.

Former Dann spokesman Leo Jennings was fired from the AG’s office after trying to get Jennifer to lie under oath.

Today, Jennifer Urban started posting comments on my blog. After I confirmed it was her, I gave her a chance to have me post a more flattering picture than the one the MSM uses (her official state id photo) and I sent her a number of questions to answer. You can see a cropped version of the picture she sent me to the right. And below is my complete, unedited email interview with Jennifer Urban:
———

Question 1: How did you first start working at the Ohio Attorney General’s
office under Jim Petro?

I began at the Ohio Attorney General’s Office in June of 2007. Just prior to starting, I had the fortunate opportunity to work as “Of Counsel” on Cutter v. Wilkinson, a United States Supreme Court case, with Professor David Goldberger (The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law Legal Clinic), Marc Stern, and Benson Wolman. We fought for prisoners’ rights to freedom of religion. It was a unanimous verdict against Jim Petro. Soon afterwards, the Petro administration hired me. I’ve been there ever since.

Question 2: How did you move from working for Jim Petro and then becoming part of AG Marc Dann’s close inner-circle?

Jim Petro hired me into the Charitable Law Section. Under Jim Petro, my work primarily focused on regulation of charitable gaming (bingo and games of chance), regulation of charitable solicitation, and regulation of charitable trusts. I ran one of the section’s investigative enforcement teams. When Marc Dann was elected, he decided to make some staffing changes, one of which included the gal who was in charge of nonprofit hospitals. Through my work on Health Alliance in Cincinnati, Marc asked me to work on the Forum Health case in Youngstown (which Marc and Leo personally logged many hours as well), and then requested that I become more involved in nonprofit healthcare as a whole. I eventually replaced the woman that regulated nonprofit hospitals for the office. Marc was truly zealous about nonprofit healthcare, wanted to achieve a lot in the healthcare arena, and therefore Marc, myself, and his senior staff worked a great deal together.

Question 3: How would you best describe your relationship with Leo Jennings?

We worked closely with one another on the Forum Health case. We became friends.

Question 4: Love him or hate him, Marc Dann, in his short time in office, accomplished a lot. What went wrong, and what do you think were the warning signs? Did he exhibit any destructive behavior?

I think everyone has an opinion about this, especially right now. However, in my personal opinion, I think Marc Dann’s greatest strength was also his weakness: enthusiasm. He was so enthusiastic to do great work that he often overlooked some crucial administrative necessities.

Question 5: What is the general mood in the office now?

Folks, including myself, want to move on with their lives and do the great work they are accustomed to doing. Unlike generally held stereotypes, government workers (especially AG attorneys and staff) are hard-working, diligent, dedicated people. We are all eager to put recent events behind us and start a new chapter.

Question 6: How do you feel about the media suggesting that you filed a false police report? I owe you a sincere apology, as I was simply basing assumptions off of Paul Aker’s report on Channel 10.

I think the mere suggestion that I was somehow involved is ridiculous. Throughout the entire situation, I have been completely honest about events and have done many difficult things in order to stand up for myself. I have demonstrated that I have strong character.

Question 7: What’s next for Jennifer Urban?

I will continue to fully cooperate with all investigations and produce the high quality legal work I always have been known for. I would like to move on to the next chapter of my life.

———

I would like to thank Jennifer for taking the time to answer my questions.

Readers, please share your thoughts in the comments section.

Update @ 7:14pm: The one factual error in this short interview is that Jennifer said she started working for Petro in 2007. Records show that she actually started on 6/27/2005 at a rate of $19.48/hour. But this is obviously just a typo, as Jim was no longer the Ohio Attorney General in 2007.

She is probably a Liberal, what do you expect?

  5. 5 Concerned

Just a little advice, Jenn- “No Comment” Try it….you might just like NOT looking like a publicity Ho…um, Hound.

  6. 6 JJ

Jennifer you and Jessica are extremely hot… if you got out of the midwest and on to one of the coasts, you could both have hot, young, successful sugar daddies instead of these losers. Think about it.

  7. 7 anonymous

I wouldn’t say they are hot, I would say perhaps plain janes.

  8. 8 OMG

Why would anyone talk to Matt?

And come on guys, it’s not polite to pick on women about how they look. Be nice.

  9. 9 Mrs.

    Hey Jenn,

Thanks for being honest and taking the time to set us straight. I was skeptical but now it makes more sense. I appreciate your honesty through this scandal.

It’s not easy being under the microscope, everyone. How well would you fare? Cut her some slack!

  10. 10 Mike

Character and ethic are about how you conduct yourself when others aren’t looking. Jim Petro’s office hired you after you helped represent his opposition in a court case. That tells me something about you and a lot about him.

Two weeks ago, I sat up half the night to read every word of the sworn testimony made available by the Dispatch. Taken as a whole it paints a very different picture of the level of professionalism in the AG’s office than you present here. Put the sexual harassment charges aside and you still have an office plagued with profanity, gossip, questionable personnel decisions, and extramarital affairs. As a citizen of Ohio and a taxpayer, I couldn’t be more disgusted with everyone involved.

I don’t know what else will come out from the ongoing investigation. My gut feeling tells me there’s quite a bit more housecleaning that still needs to be done, both in and around the AG’s office. Rumors of Marc Dann’s affair swirled for months before everything hit the fan. If important people (who had to know of the rumors) investigated and looked the other way, they need to be held accountable too.

The current set of rumors is beyond imaginable. They can’t all be true, but nobody was supposed to believe the previous rumors either. It is unfortunate that you have personally participated in creating an office environment where even the most outrageous rumors could very well turn out to be true.

You can move on if you wish but the citizens of Ohio will have lawsuits to endure and settlements to pay. All because some self-important married men and some career-climbing women who worked for them couldn’t keep their respective pants on.

Cut her some slack??? She is obviously logging in under different names to try to save herself. This girl is crazy! Come on she is an attorney with the AG and she is answering to this stuff???? Doesn’t she have anything better to do like uhhhhhh apologize to her family for all this. Uhhhh maybe do some real work for the AG’s office????? And by the way… Judging from the recent video this photo is OLD! Maybe 55 pounds older! Is that the best pic she could find? Give me a break!

  12. 12 Frankie

    Hey guys!

This morning I went outside about 5am to smoke on the back porch. I came back in and my refrigerator and my cat were stolen. poof!

Damn this hamburglar is a sneaky sneak! Rubble rubble

  13. 13 anonymous

    big ass and small t@@s!!!!!

  14. 14 More concerned

The people here who think she has been honest this whole time should really listen to her testimony, her 911 call hello who says “U Betcha”, then how the story has changed. I think we should contact some of the people she works with and see if there is any truth to her statements, it isn’t hard to look honest when we are bolgging now is it?

She is a disgrace and needs to learn her lesson the hard way, her and jessica Hot, Please people they have been rode hard anbd put away wet! Look at both of them, better yet, listen to them. Youcan only be so pretty until you open your mouth

  15. 15 anonymous

Her mouth was full of lounge lizard leo jennings while utovitch was full of Marc dann and the occasional gutierrez.

  16. 16 Hmm

Jessica was busy “rescinding her resignation” by doing a sexy dance at Dann’s condo involving unusual uses of Hawaiian pizza.

  17. 17 Barry

I have several friends in the Charitable law section. Trust me when I tell you that the person she is trying to portray with this interview is not the person who works at the AG’s office. Frankly, my friends in the Charitable section tell me that during the hey day of the Dann administration, she would tell people who she was going to fire in the section once Marc Dann made her section chief. That comes right from the people who have to work with her. Show no pity for her. She acted as if she was the elite person in the section becuase she was in Dann’s inner circle. According to the good men and women in the section, she is less than professional…. immature actually. That my friends, sums up the Dann inner circle too.

  18. 18 Question

Marc Dann deserves an award. How many people could surround themselves with so many morons, criminals and losers? It would be a serious challenge to do so.

  19. 19 Schwing

I used to think the best place to pick up easy liberal babes was at the abortion clinic.

Now I know the best ones worked for Marc Dann!

  20. 20 More concerned

Barry, you have never been more on target!~

  21. 21 The Bad Guy

Q: When you worked for Judge Bryant, did you have to be a licensed attorney?

  22. 22 The Bad Guy

By the way, I’m assuming the CLE wasn’t one to fulfill the ethics, professionalism, and substance abuse requirements.

  23. 23 Wow.

There is no love lost between me and Marc Dann’s trainwreck of an office, but some of the comments here are just beyond the pale. Conservatives are supposed to have a set of morals and values. What the hell is wrong with some of you people?

  24. 24 anonymous

In response to “The Bad Guy”…if the CLE was to be offered for ethics, professionalism, and substance abuse, then I am sure that Marc and Leo would benefit by attending with Jennifer. Maybe we should add immorality and adultery to the CLE as well. I am sure that would fulfill the requirements for those involved.

Also, there has been mention of Jennifer’s work history in her interview as well as the blog responses, just curious as to what Jessica’s work history entails.

  25. 25 anonymous

jessica’s work history includes getting on her hands and knees, preferably under someone’s desk and then you fill in the blanks.

  26. 26 The $500 question

Here is the question that I’d love to hear an answer to Ms. Urban.

The Ohio AG employs well over 700 attorneys. Of those attorneys, only a select few are issued blackberries by the state. From what I understand, about 40-50 attorneys get them.

Why does a 3rd year AAG get a blackberry from Ohio?

  27. 27 conservacrat

I think most people would be surprised by the high number–and low to middling rank–of state employees issued Blackberries in various state agencies.

  28. 28 Robb

Nothing surprises me when it comes to the government wasting money.

  29. 29 Dion

Why don’t you two just go get a room?

2 married men, 2 single women….an alcoholic, labor union “mobster”, that can’t drive, sidekick…and two hapless victims…..

Sounds like an NBC sitcom more that an AG office.

This girl can’t be believed on any level if anything BECAUSE she is friends with lying dirtbag Utovich. “Birds of a feather flock together” and this isn’t an innocent helpless lamb. She is an attorney, that is savvy and knows more about lying and avoiding the truth more than most of us will ever know.

Just because she is into self preservation over loyalty doesn’t mean she is “clean.”

She is a rotten four-flusher. Stop swapping spit with her or you might end up with your pants down, computer confiscated….sitting in the IG’s office, like a school boy caught by the principal, looking up skirts, under the monkey bars at recess.

Look closer, IF the Blackberry was recovered then WHERE is the FREAKIN’ TV? Maybe it will turn up at a party mysteriously on someones kitchen counter on campus.

It should be obvious that IF the Blackberry was stolen, then ANY alterations, deletions or destruction of evidence would be easier explained IF it were out of her possession for a period of time.

Alterations or deletions of a Blackberry IN her possession would draw attention and consequences but IF Blackberry was “stolen” then when it shows up with NO EVIDENCE on it, that could be attributed to “thieves” and the time when she “didn’t know” were it was. At least the IG will think of this.

    WHERE IS HE FREAKIN’ TV??????

  30. 30 Administrative Assistant

“Nothing surprises me when it comes to the government wasting money.”

    Yes I agree.

  31. 31 No sympathy-Not a Fan

How do Jenn and the others expect the wives and families to get “whole” again after sleeping with their husbands, fathers and sons etc.: a/k/a middle aged, married, obnoxious pigs. How long was she being harrassed by Leo? When did it start and did it all become harrasment when Leo was no longer available and could not help her with her very shotty career? What were some of the perks Jenn and how will you explain those? “B–W Job” welll done? I guess “claiming” you only slept with one married man is okay? True family values!
Your parents must be very proud of thier daughter, not sure this is what they had in mind when they sent you off to Law School!
You are a drunk and a tramp and should learn to keep your mounth shut like your good friend Jessica. It’s been said that you were stalking Leo and Tony?? That can’t possibly be true can it? You better be careful, this could take you some place you don’t want to go. When you play with fire you get burned!
Harrasement, I think not. Show me the money and save face. (and not such a petty one at that).
